Populations are constantly changing due to multiple factors.
Limiting factors can cause populations to increase or decrease. Density-dependent and density-independent factors are types of limiting factors.
As the population increases or decreases, the density-dependent factors will increase or decrease proportionally. Competition, predation, disease and space limitations are such factors. These factors force the habitants of the population to fight for survival, causing great effects on the population
growth.
Density-independent factors are factors that influence the population no matter what the population density is. Climate change and natural disturbance are common density-independent factors. Excessive heat or frigid cold weathers can cause for disturbance in the ways of organisms, therefore, causing reduction in the current and future population growth.
